National Alliance of Provincial Health Research Organizations

The National Alliance of Provincial Health Research Organizations (NAPHRO) is an alliance of provincial health research funding agencies created in 2003 to promote increased dialogue, linkages and partnership activities. Alliance members meet two to three times per year to share information and identify potential opportunities for working collaboratively on common issues. Members of NAPHRO include:

Since November 2009, the Alliance has been co-chaired by Jacques Magnan (Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions) and Vasanthi Srinivasan (Ontario Ministry of Health).

Contacting NAPHRO:
Anyone wishing to communicate with the provincial health research funding agencies should continue to deal directly with each agency. There is, however, some opportunity to share information with NAPHRO agencies at their meetings. To arrange such an opportunity, please contact one of the co-chairs.

NAPHRO - MEETING HIGHLIGHTS - APRIL 14-15, 2011

  • NAPHRO approved the proposal prepared by AIHS to develop a permanent secretariat and house the secretariat for NAPHRO for the next three years.
  • Mr. David Baker, Executive Director of CASRAI provided an update outlining the mandate, process, membership, implementations, international interest and the road ahead for CASRAI.
  • Dr. Robyn Tamblyn, Scientific Director for the CIHR Institute of Health Services and Policy Research (IHSPR) provided an update regarding the vision and mandate, partnerships, upcoming initiatives and funding opportunities with the IHSPR. In particular, she highlighted the new Signature Initiatives developing at CIHR and the opportunities for partnerships with the provinces.
  • Members of NAPHRO shared their interest in further optimizing coordination between CIHR and provincial health research organizations for the success of national health research strategies.
  • Dr. Terry Sullivan, Academic Coordinator for the EXTRA Program, gave an update on the current status of the program highlighting the partners, curriculum, and information regarding the fellows.
  • The next NAPHRO meeting will take place in the Fall of 2011 in Ottawa.
